David R. Robb has been practicing judo since 1963. He has recently been graded to Godan (5th degree black belt) in Kodokan Judo. Dave began his judo studies under the late Mr. Frank Hatashita, at York University. Later, he studied and obtained his shodan rank under Mr. Ray Kelly at the University of Alberta. He is presently studying the katas under Mr. Duncan Vignale. Dave fought on the York University judo team for four years, then one year for the University of Alberta. In 1968 Dave fought for the province of Alberta at the Nationals in Saskatoon. Dave is a National C referee and has completed Level 2 of the N. C. C. P. in judo. He has been the dojoshu of the Kohbukan Judo Club since 1988 and the Director of the Kohbukan Shiai since 2000. Dave is currently the president of the Kohbukan-Sisu Judo Club.
Dave is a retired high school English teacher. He has written an illustrated syllabus for the club. His main focus in judo has been with young people. He began a school club for Central Public School which has been steadily growing in size over the past several years. Dave has also developed a strong interest in the various Katas-formal techniques which illustrate various aspects of Judo. Dave and his partner, Paul Davidson competed at the Nationals in 2005 in both Nage no Kata and Goshin Jutsu coming third in each event.
At present, Dave is active in judo, teaching and practicing. In what little time he has outside of judo, Dave builds boats, sails, and wind surfs in the summer and skis in the winter.
