INSTRUCTORS - WAYLAND PULKKINEN

Wayland J. Pulkkinen has been practicing judo for over 40 years, and is presently a registered 5th degree black belt in Kodokan Judo. He is a former member of the Canadian National Judo Team, and has competed and participated in a variety of both international judo competitions and training camps throughout his athletic career. In addition, Mr. Pulkkinen is a former national level competitive freestyle wrestler, who competed for two different university and club teams. He also is a registered 1st degree black belt in Jiu Jitsu (Canadian Jiu Jitsu Council), and holds the rank of Sempai in Chokushin Aiki Jujutsu. Mr. Pulkkinen has been practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over 20 years, and holds the rank of black belt (Bravado Jiu Jitsu).

His education includes a Bachelor of Physical Education (McMaster University), a Master of Science in Applied Sport Science and Coaching (Lakehead University), a diploma in Primary Care Paramedicine (Humber College), and a diploma in Advanced Care Paramedicine (Georgian College).

Mr. Pulkkinen is a fully certified Level 3 coach under the National Coaching Certification Program (N.C.C.P.) in both judo and wrestling, and also has completed several Level 4 and Level 5 N.C.C.P. tasks towards certification. He is a former chair of the provincial program for Judo Ontario, in addition to being a course conductor and presenter for N.C.C.P. courses.

He has presented at both academic and coaching conferences, in addition to being published in both academic and non-academic journals, and he continues to present and conduct educational seminars and workshops in both the sport and health fields.

His professional memberships and designations include: Certified Kinesiologist (C.K.) through the Ontario Kinesiology Association, Primary Care Paramedic [AEMCA (PCP)] under the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Emergency Services Branch, and Advanced Care Paramedic through
the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Emergency Service
Branch.

At present, he continues to teach and practice judo, jiu jitsu, and grappling, and currently trains in boxing under the TNT Boxing Academy in Guelph, Ontario.
